WELLINGTON AFC have announced that they have parted company with first team manager Josh Stunell - barely a month after his appointment.

The club issued the following statement on Tuesday (Sept 16) which said: “This difficult decision has been taken by mutual consent and we thank Josh for his efforts during his short spell in charge. We wish him well for the future.

”Wellington are home to Penzance in the opening round of the FA Vase on Saturday when the side will be run by chairman Mike Hall, supported by captain Glen Wright.

“The club’s management committee will meet the following day to discuss the managerial vacancy.”

Stunell was appointed in the middle of last month, replacing Richard Cherry who stepped down from the role in July after two seasons in charge.

Stunell moved into management after a playing career which included spells with Chard Town and Ottery St Mary when they were in the Western League.

He had managed a number of sides in Devon including Sidmouth Town and Axminster Town, in the South West Peninsula League. He had also been involved in youth development at county level and with Yeovil Town.

Wellington’s first qualifying round tie at home to Penzance carries prizemoney of £550 for the winners, and this rises to £825 for winners of the first round proper.

Wellington Reserves, who have won their opening two matches in the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League, are away to Ottery St Mary on Saturday, while Wellington A are away to Redgate in the Premier Division of the Taunton & District Saturday League.

*Wellington’s first team are away to Street in a league match next Tuesday, while the Reserves are home to University of Exeter in the Devon and Exeter League the following night (7.30p.m.).
