WELLINGTON Town welcomed Bishops Lydeard to the Playing Field this past Sunday for a match in Division One of the Under 15 section in the Taunton and District Youth Football League, hoping to become only the second side this season to beat the visitors.

However, despite a spirited display by the home side, Lydeard eventually ran out 3-0 winners to stay well placed in the table, only three points behind leaders Middlezoy Rovers (Youth) Mustangs who have won all six of their games.

After a brief spell of early pressure from Lydeard, Town settled into the game and looked threatening whernever they entered the opposition half - Jack B and Ryan M combining well in the early stages as Welly pressed for an opener.

In an even first half contest, it was Lydeard who made the breakthrough - a defensive mixup giving them the lead on 27 minutes.

But Welly responded in positive fashion - Matt T and Jayden G both coming close to finding an equaliser shortly before half-time.

Town, who continued to look a threat after the break, were again denied shortly after the restart - Matt T being foiled by the Lydeard keeper, before Sam A's strike narrowly missed the target.

But the game's decisive goal went to the visitors on 50 minutes - a long range effort giving them a two goal cushion. Ryan M came close to pulling one back for the hosts on 65 minutes - before Lydeard sealed the result 10 minutes from time to run out 3-0 victors to record their fifth win in six league games.

Matt T was named Player of the Match for Wellington.

Wellington will be back in action at home on Sunday, November 23, when they play Staplegrove Spartans at the Wellington Playing Field with a 2p.m. kick off. Spartans have won only one of their six league matches.
