WELLINGTON Town continued their fine start to the season with a disciplined 4-1 home win over Wembdon Junior Youth Dragons in Division Two of the Under 16 section in the HO Soccer Taunton & District Youth Football League.

In a tight first half, it was Welly who looked the more likely to grab the game's first goal - Gbuyi O and Jack B coming the closest to opening the scoring inside the first 10 minutes.

With the game becoming increasingly edgy, it was Town who made their first half dominance count - Ryan M producing an absolute screamer from 30 yards out, hitting the top corner after 35 minutes to put the visitors deservedly 1-0 in front.

Welly doubled their lead 25 seconds into the second half - Gbuyi O outpacing the Wembdon defence to make it 2-0.

As the home team's discipline and attitude crumbled, Welly's composure intensified. Wembdon's afternoon was made worse on 65 minutes, Gbuyi O turning provider as Jack B lashed home to extend Town's lead.

The visitors did manage to pull a goal back in the 68th minute, but Gbuyi O - in a player of the match performance - slotted home eight minutes from time to seal the result.

A 4-1 scoreline underlined Town's unwavering attitude and resilience in a game that was exceptionally physical and, sadly, not without incident.

This was Wellington’s second win in two matches while Dragons dropped their first points of the season after three games.

Bridgwater Wolves Youth top the table with three victories from three fixtures, while there are four teams on six points from two matches - Wellington Town, North Curry, Wembdon Dragons and Middlezoy Rovers Harriers.

Fixtures on Sunday include: Middlezoy Rovers Harriers v Wembdon Dragons, Minehead v North Curry, Watchet Town Red & Blacks v Wellington Town.
