AFTER completing a minute’s silence in memory of ’our fallen,’ Wellington Utd secured three points with a convincing 8-2 home win over Rhode Lane Wanderers in Division Three of the Under 13 section in the Taunton Youth League.

The home team started fast with some great football pushing them forward and scoring the opener via Angus D within the first 2 mins. Some great link ups and with heads up the boys kept creating chances until Zach W found the net at 11 mins.

It was one-way traffic with the home team creating some great openings and striker Harry N found the net for a 3rd at 15 mins. Once again the home team found themselves on the front foot with Blake M scoring after 26 mins, The visitors were unable to break Utd down and midfielder Jack F netted a 5th to end the first half 5-0. The visitors started strongly in the second half and a lovely lob found its way over the home keeper’s fully stretched arms to open the scoring for their side, Continuing to keep up the pressure the Utd boys looked a bit shaky but then Leo U scored a 6th at 50 mins which settled the game a little only for the visitors to find the net again for their 2nd goal.

Now tiring the home team held on and managed to play some good football to put them back on the front foot again with Theo K netting a 7th at 58 mins. With the home team determined to find another they kept pushing on and it paid off with Zach W finding a last minute goal to end the game 8-2. POTM Harry N.
