WELLINGTON were denied another away point in South Division of the Western Counties Floodlit Youth Football League when Axminster Town beat them 4-1 after scoring three times in the last ten minutes.

It was their third defeat of the season for the Under 18s and leaves them second from bottom in the table headed by Chard Town who have a 100 per cent record after four matches.

The Tangerines were still missing one suspended player and another through injury, although the return of two players from injury provided a welcome boost to the squad.

The first half was a stalemate, with neither side creating any clear goalscoring opportunities.

After a half-time reset, Wellington flew out of the blocks and were the better team, earning their reward in the 53rd minute when Daniel released Marley in behind the defence and he calmly slotted past the keeper.

However, in what has become a familiar story during the early stages of the season, Wellington's lead did not last long as an Axminster striker broke through the visitors' defence to equalise.

The game remained fairly even, although the Axminster striker continued to pose a constant threat with his pace up front.

The hosts won a corner in the 81st minute and the ball was bundled home to put them ahead for the first time.

Wellington then conceded a sloppy third goal in the 89th minute before giving away a penalty two minutes into stoppage time, allowing Axminster to complete a 4-1 victory.

The Wellington lads now turn their attention to the cup with a trip to Sherborne Town with their next league game being at home to Willand Rovers, who have taken three points from their opening three matches, on Wednesday, October 21, with a 7.30p.m. kick-off.
