WELLINGTON Wanderers produced another encouraging performance as they shared the points in a hard-fought 1–1 home draw against Middlezoy Rovers in Division One of the Under 12 section in the Taunton Youth League.
Wanderers made an excellent start and dominated much of the opening 20 minutes. Their passing was sharp and purposeful, with the team moving the ball confidently around the pitch and showing great composure in possession. Just as importantly, the players won their individual battles all over the field, allowing Wellington to control the tempo and keep Middlezoy on the back foot.
The breakthrough came courtesy of an excellent finish from Rex B. Showing great skill and composure, Rex controlled the ball brilliantly before calmly slotting his effort past the advancing goalkeeper to give Wanderers the lead.
Despite Wellington's dominance, football can often be decided by small moments. A defensive mistake allowed Middlezoy back into the game, and they took full advantage to equalise. Credit must go to the visitors, who remained competitive throughout and always looked dangerous on the counter-attack thanks to their pacey forwards.
The second half continued to be an entertaining contest, with Wellington enjoying the spells of possession and creating opportunities. However, Middlezoy defended resolutely and continued to threaten on the break, ensuring both teams had to work hard until the final whistle.
Overall, it was another positive display from Wanderers, who can be pleased with both their performance and teamwork despite having to settle for a point.
A huge thank you goes to the parent helpers who once again gave up their time to put up the FA Respect barrier before kick-off and run the line during the match. Their support is greatly appreciated by everyone involved with the team.
Finally, thank you to Roadchef, whose continued sponsorship of the team's shirts is greatly valued and helps make opportunities like these possible.
