WELLINGTON WILDCATS U14s 3
WESTON MENDIP U14s 0
WELLINGTON Wildcats Under 14s won this season’s first trophy by beating Weston Mendip in the Somerset Girls League Under 14 2019/20 KO Cup final.
The fixture had been held over from the end of last season because of Covid-19.
After a shaky first five minutes Wildcats never looked back following Lilly Childs hitting the upright and soon after giving them the lead in the 8th minute.
However, it was not all one-way traffic and Wellington’s goalkeeper Bethan Chetland had to be alert on several occasions to sweep up behind her defence to clear dangerous through balls.
Ella Hartley nearly added number two in the 27th minute when she hit the upright from long range but Wildcats were not to be denied and a minute later Ella Childs latched on to a poor goal kick to add goal number two.
The second half was mostly played in the Weston half with Bethan Chetland continuing her good work tidying up behind her defence.
Wellington’s third goal came near the end of play with Lilly Childs putting the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs.
This was an excellent display by Wellington who fully deserved their win by outplaying their opponents.
