THE winter of misery continues as it seems that the rain reserves itself for the latter part of every week in order to disrupt the football programme, writes Phill Bell.

Hemyock can take some heart from the fact that everyone was in the same boat over the weekend as all matches in the Devon and Exeter League were washed out.

Hemyock have not played once since playing away at Dawlish on December 5, so it is beginning to look like it will be the usual three games a week in April in order to get the season finished.

What next season will bring for Hemyock is, at present, a bit of a worry. Having disbanded the reserve side at the beginning of this season in order to strengthen the first team, it has still been a real struggle to raise a competitive side every week.

It is hoped that there will be an injection of players from the Hemyock Youth set up as the next batch of youngsters are currently playing at Under 16 level. With no Under 18 structure within the Devon and Exeter league in which they play, the most realistic step is for them to step up to senior football.

Whether they will or not remains to be seen but for the future of Hemyock Football Club it could be a necessity that at least five or six make the step up or the team could go the same way as the Reserve team did. Here’s hoping!

Hemyock try again this week with an away fixture at Tipton St John, on a pitch that is notoriously wet.
