JOHN Stanworth, better known as ‘John the Log,’ has died suddenly at his home at West Buckland at the age of 82.

John, who began his working life as a tree surgeon before going on to run a gardening business, was captain of the Foresters’ skittles team in the Wellington Ex-Services League, for 57 years.

He is thought to have missed only three matches.

A widower, he leaves four children, two sons and two daughters, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at Taunton Deane Crematorium on Thursday May 30 (11.20a.m.).
