SOMERSET Under 20s faced Gloucestershire in the Jason Leonard County Championship on Sunday and suffered an unfortunate 57-31 loss despite some great rugby played by the team.

Head coach Chris Hurd said: “The team were really pleased to get going in the Championship and, although not the result we wanted, five tries and a bonus point, as well as achieving some internal performance goals, is a great base to continue to build from towards the Cornwall game.

“The players never gave up and have bonded well during the game.

“There are always things to work on but we have time before our next match on 21st April.

“14 clubs were represented in the squad of 22 for this match and a big thank you to the clubs who had fixtures on Saturday and supported their players load management to be fresh for the match to showcase their talent.

“If your club was not represented, please reach out especially if you feel you have players able to play county standard.”

The try scorers were Aiden Cable (3) and Jake Bond, both of Chard Rugby Club, and Cam Fearn of Old Redcliffians RFC. Weston Super Mare’s George Nuttycombe was successful with three conversions.
