WELLINGTON and Wiveliscombe, who fought out a 14-14 draw in their rugby derby at The Rec on Boxing Day, will be back in Western Counties West action this Saturday - and both have home games (2.30).
Top of the table Wellington play Falmouth and will be seeking to avenge their only defeat of the season - a surprise 26-19 loss in Cornwall towards the end of September.
“It was not a case of us losing that game - it was a case of Falmouth exposing the weaknesses of the referee,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland.
“And there was no point complaining about it afterwards because we’ve been down that route before and got no-where.”
Meanwhile, Wellington expect to be back at near full-strength after being without some key players against Wiveliscombe.
Flanker Danny Lee could also be back after suffering from damaged knee ligaments although it will depend how he performs during training this week but prop Ryan Marke is still ruled out with a recurrence of a shoulder injury.
Referring to the Wiveliscombe game Chetland said: “It was frustrating that the referee decided to call a halt to the game when he did. But to be fair it was very difficult to distinguish between the players because of the muddy conditions.”
Wiveliscombe’s joint coach Peter Stone, whose side play improving Chard on Saturday, added: “I don’t think there were much more than three minutes to go. It was very difficult for the referee for the final 15 minutes. You couldn’t tell who was who.
“I thought Wellington were the better side for the first 20 minutes but we took our chances when they came our way. That’s what the game is all about.”
Wiveliscombe will be hoping that the pitch will have recovered before the Chard game.
Stone said: “Both pitches were trashed on Boxing Day. It will be interested to see what state they are in on Saturday.
n Chard are up to fifth in the table after a slow start to the season. Wiveliscombe were impressive in their last outing in Western Counties, beating Saltash 26-5 away.
They were also without some players against Wellington and, unfortunately, skipper John Ker will be on holiday.
Wellington 2nd XV play away to Midsomer Norton in Somerset One while Wiveliscombe’s second string are away to Weston in Somerset Two South.
