WELLINGTON play their second home match of the season in Western Counties West - against Cullompton on Saturday (3.00) - knowing they could easily have won at Tiverton over the weekend, writes Barry Knott.
The Devon side won 20-16 but Wellington missed penalties and conversions which would have won them the game.
“We have to move on and work hard during training this week,” said Wellington coach Laurence Ovens. “We know we could have won the game at Tiverton but that’s gone now.”
Wellington beat Cullompton 36-19 in a pre-season friendly at the Athletic Ground but that will count for nothing on Saturday against opponents who have won their opening two matches and collected maximum points.
Wellington 2nd XV, who have had their opening two matches in Somerset One cancelled, are away to Old Sulians.
Wiveliscombe face a tough away game against Weston super Mare 2nd XV who, like themselves, have taken maximum points from their first two matches in Somerset Premier.
Despite still not being at full strength, Wiveliscombe have made a splendid start to the season and proved too good for Tor over the weekend, coming from behind to win 39-26 with a fine second half display.
Wellington 2nd XV, who have not yet played, hope to get their season underway when they play away to Old Sulians while Wiveliscombe 2nd XV, who struggled to raise a side on Saturday, are home to Midsomer Norton 3rd XV in Somerset Two South.
