WELLINGTON, fielding a young side which included Ashton Cotterell, Tom Slade and Jon Long, put up a spirited fight before losing 47-5 away to Winscombe in their latest match in Regional Two South West.

Starting the game 21 points adrift at the bottom of the table, Wellington found themselves 21-0 down after 25 minutes following three converted tries by the home side who went into the game lying eighth in the table.

Wellington hit back with a splendid team try by skipper George Hodgson following good all-round play by the visitors.

However, any hopes of a fightback by Wellington were dashed when Winscombe scored an interception try from the kick-off in the second-half which was converted to make it 28-5.

Despite some defiant defending by Wellington’s youngsters, Winscombe went on to score another 19 points to finish comfortable winners and to complete the season's double over the visitors after winning 52-10 at the Athletic Ground in late November.
