SOMERSET'S Andrew Umeed is heading off to the Middle East after being picked for the Scotland cricket squad for their tour of the UAE.
After being signed initially on a one-year contract, the 27 year old right handed batter penned a two-year extension to his contract last summer which will see him remain at the county at least until the end of 2025.
Andrew, who was born in Glasgow, played for Warwickshire between 2015 and 18 and after four years away from the game joined Somerset in 2022.
Last summer he was the stand-out player in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, scoring 613 runs at an average of 87.57.
He also played in four first-class matches for the Cidermen, scoring 140 runs at 23.33.
The Scotland tour will involve four ICC Cricket World Cup fixtures against Canada and the UAE, followed by three T20 internationals against the UAE.
