The West Somerset Tennis League 2025 is almost finished with just one match, in division 2, to play and with the play-off matches to determine who will be relegated and who will be promoted.
"It has been a wonderful to play in these glorious summery evenings and not have to postpone any matches due to rain!" said Wellington chair Sue Rackley.
The following teams are involved in the play-offs. Div 1/2 Bridgwater B home to Trull B. Div 2/3 Trull Chome to either Wiveliscombe A, Bridgwater C or Taunton School. Div 3/4 Taunton Vale home to Wellington B. Div 4/5 Hemyock B home to Elms C.
Sue added: "Kings College, in division 1, were expelled mid-way through the season as they failed to field a team on two occasions as well as breaking other rules linked to the new LTA Competition system.
"Many do not feel the schools should enter as they break up so early and have a busy calendar of events as well as exams in the summer term and find fielding a team tricky. We enjoy playing against young people but their cohort of players were very weak this year as well - too weak for division 1 and so they were losing 10-0 which wasn't much fun for any of the players involved.
"However, Wellington B will have a play-off away at Taunton Vale as they finished 5th in division 3. They are without Greg Sellers, who has picked up an injury, but fortunately the Club has a good pool of men who enjoy competitive tennis who will be able to step in and hopefully help them defeat Taunton Vale.
To celebrate the end of the season, the Wellington club is hosting a tournament for the team players on the Bank Holiday Monday afternoon.
