WELLINGTON Tennis Club's three teams all delivered strong wins in the West Somerset League - in the same week.
Both the A and B teams, playing in Mixed Division 1 and 3 respectively, enjoyed their first wins of the season. The A team thrashed Trull B 10-0 while the B team, playing away, defeated Taunton B 8-3.
The B team's previous two matches had been very close and they did manage to win a rubber in each match giving them four points. Players have been Greg Sellers, Margaret Staker, Aly Spiller, Amelia, David Norkett, Liam Richards and David Goldsack.
Bolstered by the return of ex-junior players, the A team now has a bigger pool of players which has eased the pressure for the captain, Sue Rackley who said. "Yaz Cannell is hitting a great ball as well as Kevin Jones who played to a very high standard and trained up in Roehampton with the LTA. Connor Sellick is another junior player who has returned to tennis and loves competitive tennis.
"Of course, James Cross and Liz Deem are a rock solid pair and were also junior players in the club.
The team lost their first match away at Bridgwater, on Astro, but Yaz and Sue won their rubber. In the second match, against last year's winners, Trull A, Wellington won 2 rubbers which was a great result. Kevin and Liz won the championship tie break to defeat Trull A's Robyn and Chris 6-4, 1-6, 1-0. Sue and Liz also won their rubber 7-5, 6-3 against the Trull ladies. They now have 16 points and are currently second.
This year, Connor is captaining the men's team and they have had two 10-0 wins - against Trull C and Trull D - putting them top of Division 2.
