LIZ Deem, a member of Wellington Tennis Club, has won a silver medal at the 2026 European Masters Club Championships in Antelya, Turkey.

Liz and Kerry Quirk, who are also members of Taunton Tennis Club, reached the final of the Over 40s Women's Doubles Championship. The event was held at the prestigious Megasaray Tennis Academy.

Liz, whose mother Phillippa Deem is a former coach at the Wellington club, produced some top performances to beat tough opponents from all over Europe.

"It is a brilliant achievement and we are all very proud of both Liz and Kerry," said Susan Rackley, chair of the Wellington club. "They have done both clubs, Somerset and Great Britain very proud.

"As a referee, I see many women's and girls' tournaments being cancelled because they don't always attract enough entries. Liz and Kerry are amazing role models for women to play a sport to such a high level for life and we need to champion their amazing achievement.”
