WELLINGTON clinched the Somerset Division title in the West of England Premier Cricket League yesterday (Sat) when they beat Butleigh by 107 runs at the Playing Field.

It enabled them to maintain their 100 per cent record and to stay 42 points clear of their only rivals for the championship Chard who beat Taunton St Andrews by eight wickets.

Star of Wellington's batting was opener George Ruell who scored 102 not out and helped his side pile up 258 all out on a damp batting strip. Jack Beal hit three sixes in his breezy 28 and Sankeken Pathirana 25.

Wellington were 22-3 before Ruell and Sandeken Pathirana shared in a fourth-wicket stand of 63.

Butleigh, bottom of the table, also made a poor start, losing three wickets for only ten runs. They never seriously looked like winning and late runs from Matthew Ough (39) and Tom Thorne helped them reach 151 all out.

Sandeken Pathirana took 3-21, Luke Desave 3-17 and Arron Campbell 2-31.
