FALMOUTH Town's drum-beating fans went home happy after their side's 1-0 away win over Wellington in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League.

Falmouth now have equal points with Helston at the top of the table while Wellington dropped back a place - to 15th - after Saltash won 4-1 away to mid-table Torpoint Athletic.

Falmouth's victory over Wellington enabled them to pull off the season's double over their opponents, having won 8-0 at home early in the season.

Tuesday's match went ahead after a pitch inspection in the morning following heavy rain overnight. A strong wind helped to dry the pitch and conditions were good for the game with the wind subsiding.

Wellington, who have improved considering this year under manager Richard Cherry, matched Falmouth in a goalless first half of few clear-cut chances.

And although Falmouth began to dominate in the second half the game looked like ending in a draw until the 86th minute when Tom Annear slammed home a shot from 30 yards out which took a slight deflection off defender Tom Stone before beating goalkeeper Jake Viney who had made some good saves earlier in the half.

Wellington are home again on Saturday - to leaders Helston!
