PERFORMING arts centre Guildhall Young Artists Taunton held its first open day at Wellington School at the end of July.

The centre, which offers music and drama classes for ages 5-18, moved to Wellington from Richard Huish College at the beginning of the year.

Guildhall Young Artists Taunton is part of Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, ranked No. 3 in the world for Performing Arts in the QS World University Rankings 2026.

For anyone that missed the open day, the centre will be running a Summer Holiday Course from 17-21 August, which will offer classes in music, drama, production arts & art and design.

Head of centre, Rachael Parvin, said: “We were delighted to show families new to us what is on offer for children and young people at GYA Taunton, which ranges from drama workshops to musicianship classes, bands, singing, jazz orchestra, music production and DJing.

“We have generous means-tested bursaries available, including for our annual Summer Holiday Course, which offers students a bespoke timetable of workshops and classes in music and drama as well as stage lighting and art and design.

The five-day the Summer Holiday Course begins on Monday, August 17. Booking is needed by July 31 for the one week course designed to develop performing arts skills.

Aimed at young people from 10 to 18 years of age, during the five-day course they will be able to meet like-minded people and let their creativity flourish.

Packed full of workshops in music, drama, production arts and art and design, the course will culminate in an exciting performance and exhibition on Friday afternoon, which will be shared with invited family and friends.
