A SPECIAL VJ Day celebration is set to be held in Wellington Park for an evening of wartime entertainment.

In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the end of the war with Japan, Wellington Town Council will host an evening of music and refreshments on Friday, August 15.

The local Wellington Silver Band will be performing from 7.15pm, followed by Ian Jones singing classic hits at 8.15pm.

At the end of the evening, there will be a beacon lighting ceremony with a tribute from the mayor, Cllr Janet Lloyd, and the town crier.

The VJ Day 80th anniversary event will take place in Wellington Park from 7pm until 10pm.
