A MAJOR emergency services incident was underway in Wellington town centre on Thursday morning (January 4).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue (DSFR) despatched several appliances after reports of a gas leak in North Street car park.

The 110-space public car park sits between McCarthy and Stone's Bishops Court retirement flats and Wellington Football Club.

A DSFR fire engine, a hazardous incident van, and a command officer car were all seen racing through the town centre under blue lights shortly after 9 am.

Police were seen en route also.

Firefighters were seen approaching properties to speak to residents in LiveWest's Old Court Mews development.

The Wellington Weekly has asked DSFR for comment on the incident.

More news will follow as we receive it.
