MAYHEM has erupted at Tonedale Bridge in Wellington as temporary traffic lights stop working.

The lights, which were set up following a collision in mid-April, have stopped working on both sides of the bridge and vehicles are now struggling to pass safely.

Tonedale Bridge was left partially destroyed following a collision earlier in the year, which saw one side of the bridge cordoned off with temporary traffic lights erected to allow for single file traffic only.

Network Rail said the temporary safety measures would be in place until their contractors could undertake repairs, which they hoped would be completed at the beginning of May.

There is no indication so far that repairs have begun, and signage now litters the road having been toppled or damaged by the weather since April.

Network Rail has been contacted for comment.
