A LICENSING application has been made to Somerset Council for what would effectively be a first-ever ‘pub’ in part of Wellington.
It would serve the Tonedale area of the town, which has grown in recent years but lacks community facilities such as a school, public hall, and, indeed, a pub, and has only one shop, a cafe, and a restaurant.
Now, following micro-brewery Many Hands Brew Co Ltd’s relocation to the town last year, owner Tom Weymouth has applied for a premises licence.
The licence would allow Mr Weymouth to sell alcohol to drink both on or off his premises in Tonedale Mill.
He wants to be able to open between 4 pm and 11 pm Monday to Friday, 12 noon to 11 pm on Saturdays, and 12 noon to 6 pm on Sundays.
Mr Weymouth also wants to supply late night refreshments from 5 pm to 10 pm on Thursdays and Fridays, 1 pm to 10 pm on Saturdays, and 1 pm to 5 pm on Sundays.
He proposes to have live music indoors from 7 pm to 10 pm Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 pm to 5 pm on Sundays, with recorded music between 5 pm and 11 pm Thursdays and Fridays, 1 pm to 11 pm Saturdays, and 1 pm to 6 pm Sundays.
His licence application also includes film screenings between 4 pm and 11 pm Thursday to Saturday, and 12 noon to 6 pm Sundays.
Mr Weymouth currently runs a weekend taproom in Braziers coffee house, with which he shares premises.
He started the business in 2017 at Dunkeswell Airfield after previously working for breweries including Powderkeg and Unity Brewing Co, and regenerating beer production for Bredy Farm, in Dorset.
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) last year said Many Hands Brew would ‘spearhead Wellington’s slow shift from dreary hell hole’.
