A RUNNER from Wellington has completed an epic challenge to run four marathons in just 24 hours.
James Webber took on the biggest venture of his life to raise money for Cancer Research UK after his mother’s second cancer diagnosis fours years after her first for breast cancer.
That diagnosis of liver cancer tore his family apart but he was determined to fight back.
Doing the one thing he loves best, he put on his running shoes and took to pounding the streets to raise the money to help the charity.
On Saturday August 1, supported by family and friends, James took to the roads between Wellington and Taunton in the 168 km (104 miles) in his ‘run for our mum’ Cancer Research UK vest.
The 168km was split into a multi-loop route starting in Wellington with James running to Taunton, around Taunton and back to Wellington where the loop began again.
After completing his amazing challenge running between the two towns, James said: “It was the hardest things I have ever done in my life.
“I nearly stopped at 119 km but with amazing friends, family and supporting runners I got it done.
“It was a mammoth challenge that I am extremely proud of and will always remember.”
Cancer Research UK regional spokesperson, Jane Bullock, said: “We are incredibly grateful to James and his amazing fundraising efforts.
“Running four marathons in 24 hours is an extraordinary achievement.
“Thanks to the efforts of supporters like James, Cancer Research UK’s pioneering work into the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives.”
