A CHEQUE for more than £550 was presented to the Children’s Hospice South West during Saturday’s (August 1) Proms in The Park evening in Wellington Park.

The money was raised by Wellington Silver Band’s spring concert, with the cheque handed by chairman Geoff Samuel to the hospice’s Eileen Mitchell.

The band’s proms performance attracted hundreds of families on a warm evening who spread throughout the park.

They were treated to a variety of music, with supporters waving hundreds of small Union flags which were handed out to the audience.

Music ranged from sea shanties to modern pop, and included a cornet solo, Tema D’Amour, played by Graham Davies, who also arranged it himself.

The evening finished with three rousing favourites from the BBC’s ‘Last Night of the Proms’.
