SIX super trekkers have raised more than £16,000 for St Margaret’s Hospice Care from a once in a lifetime lifetime adventure in the Himalayas.

They travelled from the Indian city of Delhi to the foothills of the Himalayas and spent 12 days following the Uhl River through the heart of the world’s highest mountain range in Dharmsala, home to the Dalai Lama and the centre of the Tibetan community.

The group walked nine to 12 miles a day along a hidden route while taking in stunning views of Hindu settlements and isolated Buddhist monasteries and making new friends and unforgettable memories along the way.

Hugh and Judith Tinsley were among the St Margaret’s trekkers who took part this year and said they felt ‘proud’ to have conquered the challenge in aid of the hospice, which supported Judith after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2022.

Hugh said: “We would like to say a big thank you to St Margaret’s for supporting us with our Himalayan trek.

“We decided to take part to say thank you to the hospice for the support they gave us following Judith’s bowel cancer diagnosis and through her treatment.

“St Margaret’s supported us with information and advice when we most needed it which we will be forever grateful for.

“The trek was everything we hoped for.

“It was a physical and mental challenge, but we had a fantastic team of guides who really looked after us.

“The other trekkers were great company and so supportive.

“We saw and experienced so much, from the vibrancy of Delhi to the outstanding scenery of the Himalayas.

“It was the experience of a lifetime.”

The team of hospice trekkers raised more than £16,200 in sponsorship, enough to pay for 640 hours of vital support for patients through St Margaret’s 24/7 Adviceline.

St Margaret’s head of marketing and engagement Amy Garland said: “We are absolutely delighted that our trekkers had an unforgettable journey across the Himalayas and raised vital funds for St Margaret’s.

“These treks are a wonderful opportunity for people to take on a challenge while meeting new people and making incredible memories in the process.

“We are currently in the planning stages of booking our next trek for 2025 to coincide with our 45th anniversary.”
