The Friends of Wellington Park are looking for new volunteers to join their organisation.

The non-profit group, which stages a number concerts in the park throughout the year, is calling for more volunteers to help organise the events.

Last week the group took over the Pop up Shop on Fore Street, where they held an Easter raffle fundraiser.

Committee member Sandra Nunn said: "The Friends of Wellington Park has the pleasure of taking over the Pop-up shop last week, leading up to Easter.  We were there to promote the many events put on by the Friends and to gain more support for membership to help fund the events.

"We need to have more volunteers and some new committee members. We would like to thank everyone who supported our Easter themed raffle. All winners have been informed after the Mayor, Mark Lithgow,  drew out the numbers on Thursday afternoon."

The fresh call for volunteers comes ahead of the Spring Fayre, scheduled for Sunday May 7. The annual celebration promises to be extra special this year, as it coincides with the coronation weekend.

"The council are helping this year by putting on a tightrope walker, fire juggler and a circus tent, it’s all going to be a bit special.
