ARTISTS are being asked to get involved to help Wivey Pool celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Organisers are seeking submissions of an original piece of artwork that captures the spirit, character and significance of the community pool.

The selected artwork will become part of the permanent Wivey Pool Art Collection and will be professionally framed and displayed in the Pool House.

The plan is for the collection to grow over the years, offering an annual opportunity for artists to submit work for consideration.

The first artwork will be unveiled on January 1, 2027 as part of Wivey Pool's centenary celebrations.

Project organiser Helen Watkins said: “We are looking for original artwork that represents Wivey Pool in some way.

“This might be a literal depiction of the pool, an interpretation of its history, the experience of swimming, the surrounding landscape, or the people and community that have helped make the pool such a special place over the past 100 years.

“Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme creatively, but the connection to Wivey Pool should be clear.”

There are plans for selected artwork to be reproduced as prints, cards and postcards.

Helen explained: “Each year, a new piece will be selected for the collection. Artwork submitted but not selected in one year may be re-submitted for consideration in future years.”

Artists will be asked to assign ownership of the original artwork to Wiveliscombe Community Swimming Pool, so that it can become part of its permanent collection.

Helen added: “We hope that, over time, the collection will become a unique visual record of Wivey Pool, its history and the community that surrounds it.”

The closing date for submissions is October 31, with the first piece of artwork unveiled on January 1.
