Bowls England have issued guidelines on how clubs can re-open, as some restrictions on outdoor sport are eased.

Wellington Bowling Club’s executive committee met this week and decided to defer the re-opening of the club and discuss the situation at their next meeting at the start of June ‘in the interest of members’ safety.’

Any return would only be practice sessions under strict guidelines, with a booking system to reduce the number of players on the green at any one time. But it is a start for the Wellington club’s playing members who would normally have been playing league games home and away at this time of year and taking part in club competitions.

The restrictions also prevented the club from staging their traditional official opening of the outdoor season when most members are present.

But it is much easier to adapt to guidelines than team games such as cricket, rugby and football whose return still seems a long way off.
