THE last week of Wellington Bowling Club's indoor season for the Ladies Friday Night League saw two exciting matches played.

The Elms were top of the league when they came to this week's game while opponents Rowans were second.

Pauline Jayes, Janet Moore and skip Margaret Milton's Elms were out to show why they were table toppers but Eileen Stewart, Michelle Newstead and skip Liz May's Rowans were determined to bring them down a peg or two.

Rowans got going with a big three-shot lead in the first end, going on to make it six shots to four with two to play.

But the Elms picked up four shots in the end game to pinch a narrow victory 8-6.

This result confirmed Elms are the champions.

The remaining game played was between Wendy Scott and skip Pat Harvey's Hazels (who were a player short) against Carol Horrill, Sally Waygood and Skip Monica Carter's Oaks.

Hazels began well and were leading by four shots to one after three ends but Monica's Oaks got down to some serious bowling and came back to win 12-4.

The Oaks' victory confirms that they are third in the league for this indoor season with Hazels in fourth.
