WELLINGTON Bowling Club have closed their outdoor green. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 regulations and bad weather, only a small number of members were able to attend and it was not possible to use the green.

This year Gill Groves had completed her two years as president and, because this year’s annual meeting will not be able to take place, she officially closed the green and handed over the chain of office to Paul Kelly, who will be president for the next two years.

Gill thanked the green staff for the fantastic job they had done with the green and wished Paul all the best for his two years as president. Paul thanked Gill and said this year had turned out very differently from what had been expected. He said that, although not much bowling had been possible with all leagues cancelled and few matches played, club members had shown a fine spirit in all that they had done and he looked forward to taking the club forward.

While the clubhouse has been closed many members had worked hard to move the bar and decorate the club with special mention to Steve Lovell, Derek Alford and Tony Wollard. He said that Wellington was now becoming a modern bowling club, both on the green and socially.
