THIS year, like other sports, bowls has had to accept that the outdoor season was going to be very different and adapt accordingly.

When the Government and Bowls England allowed clubs to open their outdoor greens Wellington decided to allow players to do booked roll ups and organised a few friendlies with other clubs.

A singles and pairs competition was also organised and the finals were played on Saturday. In the singles former Wellington footballer Nick Channon beat Tony Gibson 22-5.

The pairs final was between Christine Willcocks and Alan Every and Shirley Samuels and Bill Warnett. Shirley and Bill got off to an ideal start, taking seven shots on the second end, one short of a ‘hot shot’. This meant that Christine and Alan had a mountain to climb and, although they started to fight back, Shirley and Bill took the match 14-10.

Thanks go to Henry Richbell for organising these competitions and acquiring the unique trophies awarded this year.
