FIFTY-four bowlers battled it out in the Outdoor Triples Competition at Wellington Bowling Club on Bank Holiday Monday.
It was a whole-day event organised and run by the club's competition’s secretary Janet Moore and sponsored by Oaktree Care Home, Wellington.
Eighteen teams played three rounds. The teams played six ends each round and the results were recorded so that there would be two teams to battle it out in the final.
At the end of the day, Alan Moore, Pauline Wadham and Phil Wiggan were up against Arthur Carter, Janet Lovell and Cliff Trott in the grand final.
All the competitors and other club members watched the final which was won in style by Arthur, Janet and Cliff by seven shots to one. It was a wonderful day enjoyed by everyone involved.
Meanwhile, the ladies at Wellington Bowling Clu9b welcomed three teams from Ilminster in the Somerset Bowls League. Unfortunately, for Wellington, the Ilminster club sent some very strong bowlers and the result was a resounding victory for the away team.
Wendy Scott, Marguerite Nichols and skip Gill Groves were doing quite well to begin with. They were winning 4 – 3 after four ends. At the halfway point Ilminster were just in the lead by two shots, 12 – 10 but they collected 10 shots very quickly in the end game to win it 22 – 11.
Pauline Warden, Angie Moore and Lynda Manning were always chasing the game. They did all they could but the Ilminster trio came through to win it 25 – 8.
Wendy Scott, Marguerite Nichols and Gill Groves played well but also lost 22 – 11 giving Ilminster an overall win 69 – 30.
