THE first games of the indoor winter season have taken place at Wellington Bowling Club.
In the Weekend Triples League the Woodpeckers were pleased with a comfortable victory over the Ninchers and the New Rollers finally overcame the Allstars after a closely fought battle.
Janet Lovell, Derek Vile and Steve Lovell's Woodpeckers were on top form against Dorothy Parsons, Jeanette Mogg and Chris Mogg's Ninchers.
The Woodpeckers did not allow their opponents to score for much of the game. In fact after nine ends they led by 20 shots to nil.
Chris Mogg's Nichers finally got going, picking up one well placed shot in the 10th end. Not content with that, they did the same in the next end and another in the twelfth.
But it was too little, too late. When the bell rang for the end of the game the scoreboard showed a comprehensive victory to the Woodpeckers by 20 shots to 3.
In the second match Rosemary Small, Tony Stone and Tony Woollard's New Rollers found themselves in trouble early in the game. They were 8 – 0 down against Jacqui Finney, Alan Mark and Robin Shaw's Allstars. Things wee not looking good but the Rollers began to catch up and by the eighth end the teams were level on eight shots apiece.
The Allstars settled to their task and picked up one shot to give them the lead with just one end to play. They looked to have the winning of it but the New Rollers were not going to give up easily and in the last end they collected four all important shots for a 12 – 9 victory.
At the end of the day, whether they had won or lost, members of all four teams thoroughly enjoyed playing their first indoor game of the indoor season.
