WELLINGTON AFC have announced the appointment of a four-strong management team for their first team in the premier division of the Jewson Western League.

It will consist of Joe Conway as manager, John Norman as assistant manager, Josh Baker as club captain and Georgia Purdy as coach.

A club statement issued on Monday said: “It has obviously been a difficult start for the first team after losing virtually the whole of last season’s squad along with our manager resigning shortly before the first game. “

“We’d like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to get things back on a firm footing.

“That includes Joe, John, Josh and Georgia and we are delighted to confirm their appointment.

“Joe has played for the first team and managed at all levels across the club, John is also a former first team player who heads up our boys’ section, Josh is an experienced striker in both the Southern and Western Leagues while Georgia is a talented young coach who also manages our Wildcats Ladies.

“We are focused on a strategy of developing the best local players in the area, including those coming through our youth set-up. “It’s also important to look at the bigger picture – the atmosphere across the club is incredibly positive, our finances are in excellent shape, and we are looking to the future with confidence.”

Joe said it was “a great honour” to be appointed as manager. “The attitude of the players has been fantastic, and we now need to concentrate on doing whatever we can to improve results.

“This is a great club with one of the best youth set-ups in the country at this level.”

Meanwhile, the club are holding an Extraordinary General Meeting to appoint a new chairman and it will take place in the clubhouse on Monday, October 19 (7.30pm) with all members invited.
