WELLINGTON'S A, B and C teams won two out of three matches against strong opposition at home and away in the West Somerset Bowls League, writes Martin Speakman.

Wellington's B team were at home playing Taunton Vivary Park's D team. Mark Bond, Peter White and Ian Hollingsworth had a slow start and although they began to catch up later on, it was too late and they lost 20 shots to 9.

Roger Murphy, Andy Dart and Bill Warnett were 5 – 6 down after 7 ends but they powered ahead in the second half to win 22 – 10.

Barry Cutler, Alan May and Chrissie Willcocks had a very close battle. They were just one shot up with one to play but they took the last to win 17 – 15. The overall score was 48 – 45 to Wellington.

The A team were also at home against Williton A. Peter Barlow, Gill Groves and Phil Ellis did not get off to a good start and although they began to catch up their fightback came too late and the Williton side won 17 – 10.

Pete Nichols, Darren Sparks and Mike Groves did well. They won theirs comfortably 27 – 18, while Julian Street Tony Gibson and Graham Brown lost their match after a close battle 21 – 13.

Williton were the overall winners by 56 shots to Wellington's 50.

Wellington's C team playede away to Bridgwater's Victoria Park C team. Dave Harrison, Angie Moore and Andrew Baird won a very tight game by one shot 18 – 17.

Andrew Copping, Phil Wiggan and Ken Brown were on top form and came through with a very comfortable win 27 – 10.

Jane Hayes, Tony Weston and Lynda Manning played well to win a close game 23 – 19 which gave Wellington an overall victory by 68 shots to 46 .
