PROMOTED Crowcombe made a winning start to the season in the first division of the West Somerset Cricket League by beating Kilve away by 75 runs.

Batting first, the second division champions lost opener T Ash for a duck before L Willets (21) and G Robinson (24) scored useful runs.

M Warne (40) and J Lewis (21) kept the scoreboard ticking away and J Khattak (31 not out) and J Cornish (17 not out) shared in an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 52 runs as Crowcombe scored 195-9 in their 40 overs. J Taylor, T Wilcox, R Rock and R Griffiths took two wickets.

Kilve went from 60-1 to 120 all out with opener Peter Stone top scoring with 60 from 79 balls. J Cornish took 4-20, while M Warne, J Khattak and R White took two wickets.

Meanwhile, Minehead 3rd XI made an impressive start to their season in Division Three, winning by ten wickets away to Fitzhead’s second string who were bowled out for a miserly 71 with George Furber being the only batter to make double figures, scoring 29. Ananthapadmanabhan Rejan took 3- 4 in five overs, while there were two wicketes apiece for Sreejith Anilkumar and Renjeesh Krishman.

Krishnan (29) and Sam Cobb (41) knocked off the runs in 7.4 overs as the seasiders collected a maximum haul of of 35 points while Fitzhead ended with only three points.

In Division Four, Morebath also won by ten wickets in their home game against Stogumber who were bowled out for 127 with Sam Batten top scoring with 26. James Blake took 4-22 and Connor Heard 3-40. Openers Harry Cook (70) and James Blake (51) scored the required runs in 17.4 overs.
