WELLINGTON will almost certainly have to win their last three matches in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League if they are going to stand any chance of winning the championship.

Wellington’s two-wicket loss away to Bridgwater 2nd XI last Saturday has left them 36 points behind leaders and title favourites Ilminster.

However, they are only five points behind second-placed Yeovil who lost to Temple Cloud last weekend.

Wellington play at home to eighth-placed Frome on Saturday, August 15, while the division’s Match of the Day is between Ilminster and Yeovil.

After this weekend, the remaining games for the top three sides are: Aug 22 (and positions): Chard (7th) v Ilminster (1st), Yeovil (2nd) v North Petherton (tenth), Wembdon (5th) v Wellington (3rd).

Aug 29: Ilminster (1st) v Wembdon (5th), Taunton (9th) v Yeovil (2nd), Wellington (3rd) v Chard (7th).

Wellington 2nd XI, who are 35 points adrift at the bottom of the first division in the Somerset League, play away on Saturday, August 15, to table-toppers Long Sutton who have a 50-point lead over second-placed Wedmore.

Wellington 3rd XI, lying fifth in Division Seven South, play away to Taunton St Andrews B XI, who are in third spot.

They also have a match against Ilminster 4th XI on Sunday which will be played at the Lloyd & Whyte Cricket Ground. Both third team games start at 1.30p.m.
