WELLINGTON will be looking to bounce back after their opening day defeat at North Perrott when they play at home to Yeovil in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League on Saturday, May 10 (12.00).

Wellington went down by 13 runs away to Perrott, despite a defiant 96 by opener George Ruell who was cruelly run out just short of his century.

New overseas player Lakshan Edirisinghe was the second highest scorer for Wellington, hitting 24 while Nathan Yarde made 23. Otherwise it was a disappointing batting display by Wellington.

Earlier, Perrott had scored 216-9 in their 50 overs with Freddie Woolfenden top scoring with 54, while James Salaman knocked 53.

Edirisinghe was the leading wicket-taker with a tidy 3-27 while Tony Stirzaker and skipper Arron Campbell both picked up two wickets.

Yeovil also lost their opening match of the season, going down by nine wickets at home to Bridgwater 2nd XI. Yeovil were all out for 183 with Siby Chacko being their top scorer with 37.

Bridgwater comfortably knocked off the runs with Harminder Singh scoring 116, which included 20 boundaries.

Eirisinghe, a Sri Lankan all-rounder, makes his home debut as Wellington play their first league game of the season at the Playing Field.

Meanwhile, after starting the season with a four-wicket home victory over Middlezoy, Wellington 2nd XI find themselves without a league fixture on May 10. The Seconds bowled out Middlezoy for 229 with Neil Hendy taking 3-36 and Rob Moysey 3-68. Hendy, opening the innings for Wellington, became the second of the club’s players to be out on 96 - and run out too.

Wellington 3rd XI, who lost their opening match at Staplegrove by seven wickets, entertain West Monkton 3rd XI in Division Seven Red of the Somerset League on Saturday, May 10.
