THE Under 15 boys’ football team from Court Fields School at Wellington have booked their place in the Somerset County Cup final after a superb 2–0 win against Nailsea School from Bristol.
The semi-final, played on March 25, showcased outstanding determination, teamwork, and commitment - qualities that staff say were “a credit to the school.”
Facing a strong and well-organised Nailsea side, Court Fields rose to the occasion with maturity and confidence. Goals from Gbuyi and Ryan M secured the well-deserved victory, while Evan A delivered an exceptional performance that earned him the Man of the Match award.
This achievement is a significant milestone for the team, especially given the scale of the competition. More than 40 school teams from across Somerset and Bristol entered the tournament, making Court Fields’ progression to the final an exceptional accomplishment.
School representatives praised the players’ dedication, highlighting the pride they have brought to both Court Fields School and the wider Wellington community.
The team now awaits confirmation of their opponents for the final, which is scheduled to take place in April or May. A huge congratulations goes to all the boys on this tremendous success. The county competiton attracts the best young talent in the county with teams from the Bristol area being particularly strong and often dominate the event.
However, the Court Fields’ team showed they can more than compete against such sides. It was also very pleasing that they did not concede a goal in their semi-final against Nailsea who were strongly fancied to reach the final.
The Bristol side contained some very talented players but Court Fields more than matched them all over the park. Now, of course, they must prepare for the final which will be equally as testing for the local youngsters.
