WELLINGTON Reserves kick off the new football season with an away match against Crediton United Reserves in the Premier Division of the StitchPrint Devon and Exeter League on Saturday, August 22.
The side will again be managed by Mark Owen who has steered them to runners-up and third place respectively in the past two seasons.
“I’m expecting to field a full-strength side,” said Owen this week. “There will be some new players in the squad, including one or two from last season’s under 18 side. “
Wellington finished with 44 points last season, winning 13 and drawing five of their 24 matches.
Fixtures, Premier Division, Friday, August 21: Colyton v Beer Albion, Upottery v Feniton. Saturday, August 22: Crediton United Reserves v Wellington Reserves, Lyme Regis v East Budleigh, Ottery St Mary Reserves v Wessex Park Rangers.
However, Wellington Reserves will not play again until Saturday, September 5, when they are away to Upottery.
Meanwhile, Wellington first team’s away match against Portishead Town in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League on Tuesday night was postponed ‘due to unforeseen circumstances.”
They are also now without a game on Saturday, August 22, as their away fixture at Torpoint has been rearranged.
The club’s chairman Mike Hall is currently in charge of the team and has been since the start of the season.
Wellington, who have lost almost their entire first team squad from last winter, have lost all their matches this season,
They are bottom of the Premier Division in the Jewson League with four losses and a minus 17-points deficit, while they slumped to a 9-0 defeat at Willand in an FA Cup tie recently.
However they put up a spirited display before losing 1-0 away to Ilminster Town in an FA Vase tie last Saturday, going out of the competition to a second half goal.
