WELLINGTON Reserves suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down 5-2 away to Upottery in the premier division of the Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter Football League on Saturday.

“It was a bad day at the office against a decent side,” said player-manager Mark Owen afterwards. Both the Wellington goals were scored by Rohan Poulsom.

The Reserves, who won their opening game in the division 4-0 away to Crediton United Reserves a fortnight ago, are away again this Saturday when they travel to East Budleigh.

Meanwhile Wellington A, relegated at the end of last season, were beaten 5-1 by Wembdon Reserves in the first division of the Centregreat Taunton & District Saturday Football League on the all-weather pitch at Court Fields School.

“It was a pretty average performance,” said Wellington’s new manager Connor Porter who has taken over from Warren Toth.

“We played well in the first half but they went ahead against the run of play. We picked up a couple of injuries in the second half when they scored two quick goals.”

Dylon Owens netted Wellington’s goal - direct from a free kick - to equalise in the first half - and the sides went in a half time 1-1.
