WELLINGTON Reserves bounced back to winning form with a 1-0 away victory over St Martins in the Premier Division of the Stitch2Print Devon and Exeter Football League - thanks to a superb goal by Alfie Barrett.

On a poor pitch with very little grass, Wellington took the game to the hosts from the off, creating most of the chances but failed to really test the keeper.

Ben Evett was unlucky with a fantastic curling shot from 25 yards which just went the wrong side of the post with the keeper stranded.

Both sides found it difficult playing on a bobbly pitch and the half ended 0-0.

Wellington took the lead ten minutes into the second half when Barrett was sent clear with a fine pass from Jack Bryant. He was 30 yards out when he received the ball and, as he got close to the edge of the box, he beat a defender before hitting a unbelievable curling effort high into the top corner.

St Martins stepped up the pressure but Wellington’s back line held firm. The home team’s best chance came from a Wellington player when Connor Noble tried to clear a cross from inside the six-yard box but only managed to slice it towards his own goal. As the ball flew at keeper Charlie Hawkings, he put out a hand and made a fantastic save.

Ollie Ackland and Evett looked dangerous on the wings for the away side but the pitch was the real winner and Wellington held on for the three points.
