WELLINGTON Town kicked off their new campaign with an emphatic 7-3 away victory over Minehead in Division 2 of the HO Soccer Taunton and District Youth Football League.

Wellington, who looked lively from the start, went ahead inside 10 minutes, Gbuyi O finding the back of the net after a delightful through-ball from Ryan M, before the hosts equalised on the 20-minute mark following a long spell of possession.

A penalty on the half-hour mark, won and converted by Matt T, put Town deservedly back in front, before two goals in the space of three minutes swung the initiative back in favour of the home team.

Having enjoyed the majority of both possession and territory during the half, Town's efforts were rewarded on the stroke of half-time, with Ryan M delivering another delightful through ball to Gbuyi O who swiftly put the ball in the back of the net doubling his tally with a composed finish to leave the game evenly poised at 3-3 at the break.

With the wind at their backs, Town began the second half as they had finished the first, Matt T grabbing his second of the game from a well delivered corner from Jack B. Matt T completed his hat-trick moments later, another corner delivered menacingly into the box by Jack B, as Welly extended their lead.

Town's second-half dominance was further rewarded on 63 minutes, Reece B finishing off a flourishing attack, before Matt T grabbed his fourth from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time to leave the result beyond doubt.

Wellington Town U16 are playing Watchet Red and Blacks in another league match on Sunday on pitch 2 kick off at 14:30.
