WELLINGTON suffered their second successive 6-0 loss when they went down at home to Torpoint Athletic in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League.
Ironically, Wellington nearly opened the scoring early on when a long-range free kick by Max Edgecombe forced Torpoint keeper Jack Flower into a fine save.
However, the visitors took the lead in the fifth minute when Luke Vernon punched clear, only for the ball to fall to Sam Pearson who lifted his effort over the keeper and covering defenders.
And Torpoint doubled their advantage just two minutes later. A clever flick kept the ball alive inside the penalty area, allowing James Rowe to finish.
Torpoint extended their lead in the 23rd minute. After what appeared to be a foul on Elijah Hllier went unpunished, skipper Josh Baker was subsequently sent to the sin bin. With Wellington down to nine men while Hiller was treated, Torpoint capitalised from the resulting restart as Rowe swept the ball home.
The visitors added a fourth early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty. Captain Curtis Damerell stepped up, but Vernon saved his spot kick only for the rebound to fall kindly to Ethan Wright, who tapped home from close range.
Just before the hour mark, Torpoint made it five. Damerell broke through the Wellington defence before playing the ball across goal for substitute Owen Haslam to slot home.
Wellington introduced five substitutes – all Under 18s – but Torpoint completed the scoring in stoppage time when they were awarded their second penalty of the afternoon.
Damerell again stepped up and this time sent his kick in the opposite direction to beat Vernon.
Wellington: Luke Vernon, Luke Perry, Reegan Scotcher, Tom Hawkings, Mike Murphy, Lewis Oaten, Gabriel Plant, Max Edgecombe, Joshua Baker Elijah Hiller, Danny Wordsworth. Substitutes: Gustavs Andins, Harry Chetland, Freddie Jarman, Linkoln Nash, Daniel Conway (all used).
