AFTER three heavy defeats, Wellington bounced back to winning form with 74-15 home victory over Cheltenham in Counties One Western North.

Both sides went into the match having lost their opening three fixtures and propping up the table. Unfortunately, Wellington remain bottom despite their splendid win.

Wellington never looked back after they took the lead in the third minute when Tom Slade went over for an unconverted try.

Callum Warren then scored two tries - in the 20th and 30th minutes, both converted by Alex Davey - as Wellington moved into a 19-0 lead.

Jack Macadam snapped up another unconverted try for Wellington before Cheltenham scored a five-pointer against the run of play.

Wellington went on to score two more tries, through Jonny Clist and Mike Fulwell, one converted by Davey, to lead 36-5 at the interval.

Any thoughts of a fightback by Cheltenham were dashed early in the second half when Slade scored an interception try, converted by Davey, for Wellington to go 43-5 up.

Slade scored his third try to make it 48-5 before Cheltenham came back with a try of their own.

Will Brewer then went over for a try after an outragious double dummy which was converted by Davey to put Wellington 55-10 up.

Man of the Match Slade was back on the scoresheet with his fourth try, again converted by Davey, to make it 62-10 before Cheltenham, who refused to throw in the towel, scored their third unconverted try of the game.

Wellington, however, continued to pile on the pressure and skipper Ollie Price was next over for a try with Tom Owen adding the extra points.

The former Exeter player Joe Snow, now player-coach at Wellington, scored a try on his debut to round off the scoring with Wellington deserved 74-15 winners of an entertaining game for the home crowd.
