WELLINGTON face their toughest match of the season on Monday, July 14, when they play mighty Bridgwater in the third round of the 20-overs a side Baker Cup cricket competition at the Convent Field, Taunton (6p.m.).
Bridgwater, whose ranks include paid players, are top of Premier One in the West of England League, while Wellington play in the Somerset Division, which is five levels below their rivals.
Wellington’s chairman Mark Salter said: “Obviously it’s going to be a tough match for us. But much will depend on what side Bridgwater field. I believe they’re still involved in a national competition which might reflect in the team they put out.”
Wellington, who have won their last four matches in the Somerset Division , are hoping talented opener Stian Smith, who is a student at Wellington School, will be available.
Wellington were comfortable winners in the second round of the Baker Cup, beating North Petherton at home by seven wickets - with eight overs to spare.
Meanwhile, Wellington will be looking to maintain their splendid form in the Somerset Division when they play away to Yeovil on Saturday, July 12. Wellington are lying sixth while Yeovil are one place below them following a dismal June in which they failed to win a game.
Wellington 2nd XI, lying second in Division Two of the Somerset League, play at home to third-placed Staplegrove with 36 points separating the sides.
Wellington 3rd XI play away to top of the table West Monkton in Division Seven Red on the back of a 29-run win over Staplegrove 2nd XI last weekend. The highlight of the match was a 142-run seventh-wicket stand between the experienced Des Campbell (69 not out) and young Jack Holloway (39).
Wellington have some bright youngsters emerging from their youth set-up which is very encouraging for the club's future.
