A ROADCHEF employee at Taunton Deane motorway services, near Wellington, has celebrated a remarkable milestone marking 50 years with the business.
Nigel Quick was presented with a long-service award by Roadchef chief executive Tim Gittins in recognition of his outstanding contribution and dedication over five decades.
When Nigel joined Roadchef in 1976, the service station looked very different to the busy M5 motorway services drivers know today.
The motorway did not then exist and the site sat on the old A38, consisting of little more than a small building with a shop, restaurant, and forecourt.
The southside main building was only just beginning construction, while the northbound side operated from a simple cabin serving bacon and sausage baps.
Beginning his career as a forecourt attendant before progressing to forecourt supervisor, Nigel was responsible for ordering fuel for the garage, and then about 20 years ago, moved into the maintenance team where he quickly found his calling.
Since then, Nigel has become known across Taunton Deane as the man who can fix almost anything.
Over the years, he has saved the business countless repair costs through his practical knowledge, determination, and hands-on approach.
Nigel has also played a major role in shaping the site itself, with his biggest claim to fame, designing the gaming layout template now used across the wider Roadchef business.
Mr Gittins said: “Nigel’s 50 years of service is an incredible achievement and a reflection of his loyalty, skill, and work ethic.
“He has made a lasting impact not only at Taunton Deane, but across the wider business through his creativity and practical expertise.
“Stories like Nigel’s highlight the positive and supportive culture that Roadchef offers people to build fulfilling careers.”
Away from work, Nigel enjoys family life with his wife Debbie and their two children.
