CHAMPIONS of the recently-completed four-team Ladies' Friday League at Wellington Bowling Club are the Hazels.

They beat the Rowans who were lying third coming into their last game which was played on March 13, the same day Oaks played an excellent game to beat second-placed Elms.

Diane Sutton, Wendy Scott and Shirley Samuel's Hazels had a close battle with Jackie Finney, Debbie Beasley and Marguerite Nichols' Rowans. Hazels took a small lead early on and despite a strong fightback by Rowans, they held on to win the match and the championship by nine shots to four.

In the remaining match, Sally Waygood, Monica Carter and Sue Channon's Oaks were on top form against Diana Dagg, Angie Moore and Jane Hayes' second-placed Elms.

The Elms fought hard every end but the Oaks were just too good on the day and went on to win comfortably, 22-3.
